# Change how slides enter and leave

[Canonical article](https://slides.com/docs/slide-transitions)

The slide and background transition settings can be used to change how slides move in and out of view when stepping through a slide deck. By default, we use a sliding transition. But you can easily switch to a more distinct transition style or remove the transition animation altogether.

For animated movement between matching content blocks on consecutive slides, use [Auto-animate](/docs/auto-animate). To reveal blocks one at a time within a slide, use [fragments](/docs/fragments).

To open the transition settings, select **Style** in the leftmost editor menu. Hover over a transition thumbnail to preview it.

## Per-slide transition

You can override these transition settings for a specific slide using the [Slide Settings](/docs/slide-settings) interface.
